| Whitewashed Tombs |

In yet another striking example of Jesus saying things one wouldn't quite expect the Son of God to say, in a particularly venomous speech about a group of self-righteous malcontents known as the Pharisees, he accused them of being like "whitewashed tombs." In as close to his exact words as is possible for us to record and preserve over 2,000 years, Jesus said this: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people's bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness." Strong words. Sadly, most churches today, while quite beautiful on the outside, are completely unclean. Sadder still, the people Jesus used to teach and defend have become spitting images of the people Jesus once cursed.
