| Saved |

This is a favorite word of most modern Christians. Most can while away hours in a Bible study talking about how they "got saved," how others need to "get saved" and how they are so thankful to be "saved." Unfortunately, no one seems to remember what they were saved from. In fact, most think they were "saved" from ever being wrong, beer or having fun on Saturday nights. Those who don't spend their Sunday mornings all dressed up to catch a good nap, think the people who do have been saved from rational thought. If one were to ask most who call themselves Christians what they were saved from, they would say "sin." But, it is clear after beholding their self-righteous outlook on life that they do not understand the definition of the word "saved." According to a very reputable online dictionary, "saved" means to be rescued from ruin, destruction or harm. It is quite unlikely that a person or thing who is being ruined or destroyed to the point where they need to be rescued is actually capable of rescuing themselves. In fact, in the sense of what the Bible has to say about saving, the chances of a person saving themselves from sin are about the same as the chances of a 1972 Ford Pinto deciding on its own accord to become a 2003... well... Accord, and then morphing into a Honda and driving on auto pilot down to the Chevron to pick up 5 gallons of gas, a lottery ticket and a box of Slim Jims. Undeterred by this, most modern Christians act as though they have somehow managed to save themselves. However, their predicament is so wretched they require a rescuer. The next time you are unfortunate enough to be in a situation where the man at the bar next to you who refused to drink but instead is reading a Bible and eating peanuts is talking about being "saved," please note that he is talking about his dire need to have a rescuer, named Jesus who was in fact the living embodiment of the book he is quoting, spare him from the destruction sin caused in his life. He didn't rescue himself, and though he may try with all his might, he cannot rescue you either. If you have reached a point in your life where you feel you are headed straight for ruin, bypass Joe Christian and run straight to Jesus. He is the lifeboat. Joe is just an ill-mannered passenger.
