God

Our Father,

God is the Father and Creator of all things. Before anything else came into existence, God was present. He is still present and serves not just as the Father of all believers, but the Father of all of Creation.

Which art in Heaven

God does not dwell on this earth, nor is He subject to it. He finds His dwelling in the Heavens and is not subject to earthly laws or earthly measurements of time. Rather, He sits above time and serves as law-giver.

Hallowed be Thy name

The very name of God is Holy and sacred. In the Ten Commandments we are told not to use His name in vain. God is so high, so glorious and so far above mankind that even His name is to be used sparingly and with great caution. Early Jewish followers would not even spell out the name of God, and when they did they would leave the vowels out because the name itself was too Holy for mortal man to even mention in its entirety. God’s name is to be used in reverence and awe. Just the name of God should evoke amazement, fear and trembling at His awesome works and mighty power.

Thy Kingdom come

In the final analysis, no Kingdom other than that of the King of the universe shall stand. An earthly kingdom will always be an imperfect one. God’s Kingdom is perfect and everlasting. God is truly sovereign. His sovereignty is not like the phony sovereignty of human rulers, which is fleeting, can be conquered and comes to an end at the ruler’s death. God’s sovereignty is eternal, unconquerable and over all. He sits as King over all things Created.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven

God has a determined plan or will. It existed before the beginning of time in the Heavens and continues to exist on earth. God’s will is unstoppable and cannot be hindered by human hands. All God decrees will come to pass both on earth and in Heaven.
